Trajectory Print Portfolio Project

12 MARICOPA COUNTY ARTISTS SELECTED FOR PHICA’S TRAJECTORY PRINT PROJECT

In early 2019, Phoenix Institute of Contemporary Art (phICA) launched a new initiative intended to showcase the richness and diversity of art being made in Maricopa Country, primarily the Phoenix Metropolitan area.

In Summer, 2020, phICA sent out a call for work and received 45 submissions. Marisa Flórido Cesar, a highly respected curator, art critic, author, and university professor based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil selected 12 artists from the submissions for the Project from images of representative art works submitted by artists for consideration. Marisa Flórido Cesar earned a doctorate degree and a master’s degree in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and graduated from UFRJ with a degree in Architecture and Urbanism. She actively works in various facets of the Brazilian art world with strong interests in Art History, Art Theory, Contemporary Art, and the Art of Brazil. Before this project she was unfamiliar with Phoenix artists and their works, making the selection process challenging and unbiased yet informed by her vast experience in working with the visual arts throughout Brazil.

The 12-print portfolio will be produced by Master Printer Brent Bond of Santo Press, Scottsdale, Arizona. Bond earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University, and before founding Santo Press was a master printer with the former Segura Publishing Company, Tempe-Mesa. He teaches printmaking at Mesa Community College and at the Mesa Arts Center.

With the artists selected and their collaboration with Brent in process, we are offering prepublication pricing to our supporters for reserving a limited number of individual prints and whole portfolios. Refer to the information below for costs of prints and grouping selections and for a listing of artists participating in the Trajectory Print Project. The Project is scheduled to be completed later in 2021. At that time, we will officially publish the Prints and prices will automatically increase to $125 per print to start with on the Publication date. With a pre-publication purchase, you are betting on the Artists and their abilities to make outstanding works. Participants will pick from our 12 artists’ final prints. The limited number of single Prints are offered on a “first-come, first-served basis”. There are 50 numbered prints in each edition.

To reserve your selections or if you have any questions feel free to email us at info@phica.org, or phone/text Ted Decker at (480) 577-8295.

Artist Workshops with Brent Bond, Master Printer, Santo Press

Scottsdale, Arizona

In late November/early December, 2020, project artists met with master printer Brent Bond at Santo Press in Scottsdale, Arizona for an overview of printmaking and to learn which options are available for them to use. Meetings were socially-distanced requiring masks. The majority of the 12 artists have not made prints before making this an exciting, challenging, and fun project for all. Ted Decker and Eddie Shea represented phICA and presented more information about Trajectory Print Project.

Brent Bond

In Summer, 2020, phICA sent out a call for work and received 45 submissions. The 12-print portfolio will be produced over 2-3 years by Master Printer Brent Bond of Santo Press, Scottsdale, Arizona. Bond earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University, and before founding Santo Press was a master printer with the former Segura Publishing Company, Tempe-Mesa. Funds to launch and execute the project have already been raised through sponsorship by supporters and funders in our community. Our curatorial projects and various initiatives strive to be relevant and innovative. Each print edition will be divided between the artist, phICA, and prints designated to be donated to local, regional, and national art museums and agencies.
