Cory J. Rogers

Cory J. Rogers is an artist/curator living and working in Phoenix, Arizona. In 2011, he graduated from Arizona State University receiving a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Photography studio art. Currently, he is a Masters of Arts candidate in Arizona State University’s Museum Studies Program in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change.

Artistically he has exhibited nationally and internationally including exhibitions at Eye Lounge in Phoenix, Arizona, Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Aspen, Colorado, Northern Arizona Sate University Art Museum in Flagstaff, Arizona, Southern Illinois University Museum in Carbondale, Illinois, and at the Spannocchia Foundation Etruscan Museum in Sienna, Italy.

Rogers’ curatorial and academic research currently is focused on institutional critique. His upcoming curatorial undertakings include projects with the Phoenix Institute of Contemporary Arts Emerging Curators Initiative in October 2015 and he is co-curating an exhibition for the ASU Art Museum featuring acclaimed artist Mark Dion, scheduled for the Fall of 2017.

Curator’s Exhibition Text

the Collapse brings together five artists working in ceramic sculpture who engage with themes of sustainability. These artists – Jesse Armstrong, Jeff Reich, Patricia Sannit, Sheetal Shaw, and Jonah Skurky-Thomas – explore subjects surrounding our environment, political structures, destruction, history, time, exposure, architecture, disease, growth, and the resilience of the natural world.

Curated by Cory J. Rogers, the Collapse underscores the possible outcomes when environmental concerns are left unchecked.

the Collapse is produced in collaboration with the Phoenix Institute of Contemporary Art (phICA) as part of the inaugural year of the Emerging Curator Initiative. This exhibition is supported by Tana and Ridge Smidt/Arizona Home Care, Ellyce and Eddie Shea, Ted Decker Catalyst Fund, and phICA.
