Amelia Miholca is an American-Romanian artist and art historian, with an M.A. in Art History and B.A.F. in Painting, both from Arizona State University. Her specialization is modern and contemporary art, with an interest in Eastern European, post-socialist and post-colonial art. Her Master’s thesis, titled Constantin Brancusi’s Primitivism, examines the influence of Romanian folk art and African art on Brancusi’s modernist, abstract sculptures. In addition to being an assistant to artist Beth Ames Swartz, she has held internship positions with phICA, ASU Art Museum, and most recently Phoenix Art Museum. Miholca has chosen to pursue a career in the arts due to her personal, spiritual and cultural connection to creating and viewing art, along with her desire to be part of art’s positive, enduring role in our chaotic, transient world.
