One of the more exciting players in Downtown's art scene — now emerging from gangly adolescence into something akin to your cool cousin who makes her own clothes — is the non-profit Phoenix Institute of Contemporary Art. phICA hosts artist residencies, promotes art incubation and community engagement and education, and the fruits of the organization's labor are borne out in its shipping containers on Roosevelt Row. These unconventional spaces host compelling, thematically challenging shows from local artists and allow emerging curators to carry out their budding visions. 408 E. phICA has been awarded a Community Investment Grant

Arizona Commission on the Arts, the state's cultural agency, has awarded phICA a Community Investment Grant in the amount of $5,000. This represents a significant increase from amounts awarded in previous years. As an institution with virtually no administrative overhead, phICA will utilize these funds to expand outreach and capacity in key educational areas including Critical Art Writing, Immersive Artist Residencies, and Artist Catalog publication. We appreciate the Commission's investment in and ongoing support of phICA.

Rigo gets up close and personal with people in Porto, Potugal!

phICA successfully raised funds from our community in order to send Rigo Flores to an artist residency in Porto, Portugal during July, 2017. 

phICA also facilitated writing a Professional Development Grant to the Arizona Commission on the Arts which was awarded to Rigo for this purpose.

Emerging Curator Initiative

phICA is both pleased and proud to announce that Elnaz Bokharachi has received a $1,000 grant from Axosoft and Lawdan Shojaee, Chief Executive Officer, in support of her exhibition of art work of Azi Amiri and related exhibition activities in her installment of the Emerging Curators Initiative.

Arizona Commission on the Arts

We are thrilled to announce that phICA has been awarded a Community Investment Grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts in the 2016 grant cycle, our third from the state’s arts agency. The Arts Commission receives its funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the State of Arizona. The grant will support phICA’s Onloaded 3 project of 13 exhibitions in repurposed shipping containers, October, 2015 – May, 2016.

Scottsdale League for the Arts

the Scottsdale League for the Arts has awarded a grant to phICA for our innovative and recently launched Emerging Curator Initiative for 2015-16. This is our second grant from this long-time funder of arts and culture projects and the presenting organization for the renowned annual Scottsdale Culinary Festival.
